Power Outages Leave Hartford Residents in the Dark

After the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, many men and women are still living in homes without any electricity. According to a recent report from WFSB News, about 47,000 utility customers are currently living without electricity. The hurricane ravaged New York and surrounding states early last week, but state natives are just now starting to sort through the chaotic mess that Sandy left behind. The 47,000 buildings without power are what is left over after more than 625,000 people did not have power.

According to reports, on Sunday more than 85,000 customers of the Connecticut Light & Power or of United Illuminating were still in the dark. The utilities providers are trying to have more than 95 percent of their client based restored with full and working power by Monday or Tuesday morning. Currently, 98 percent of all CL&P customers have power, and UI says that about 95 percent of their customers have power as well.

While the power is being restored, some people who were called into work or placed in warehouses may have been injured by trip and fall accidents. Naturally, visibility is low or impossible depending on the time of day when the electricity is out. This means that some people may trip if dangerous items are left in a walkway. If the electricity is out, business places and public locations need to take special precautions to make sure that the walkways are clear of any dangerous items. When a company fails to do this, it puts innocent people at risk. If you were harmed in a trip and fall or slip and fall accident, then contact the attorneys at David A. Zipfel & Associates, LLC.
